There’s a revitalization taking place within the True North Estates Association being led by a nationally distinguished architectural design firm that has resulted in one of the most ambitious projects ever in the region.
True North has long been a destination hotspot and luxurious golf getaway location in Michigan. Now it can be home via Camp True North, a project authorized by and for the enjoyment of the True North Lot Owners Association that includes 15 cabin lots that overlook the pond and trails in addition to a wide variety of camping-style amenities and activities.
The Camp True North project is being headed by John Sather of Swaback Partners, an award-winning agency based in Phoenix that specializes in architectural design, community planning and interior motif.
Sather, who was a student at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, has helped design some of the most unique communities and buildings in the country, including Kohler Village (the world headquarters of the Kohler Company), Martis Camp in Lake Tahoe and Promontory in Park City, Utah.
“Camp True North was established as a result of the rejuvenation of the True North Estates Association,” said owner Fritz Duda. “John Sather authored the plan at the site of the large pond just west of the driving range and has created a camp-like common area for what he terms ‘life after golf.’ This center core is a world-class trout pond and water amenity, along with a trail system.”
The vision of Camp True North recalls the long tradition of family camps that were established in the early part of the 19th Century – the kind of family-oriented camping experience that offers a wide array of recreational activities, all in the great outdoors.
“Camp True North will be one of those rare places in the world that will radically alter your state of mind,” Sather said. “It will quiet the noise in your head and allow you to live a lifestyle of pleasure and great diversity all within the pristine beauty of True North. The landscape makes you feel as if you have stepped out of the modern world and back into time. It’s a place like no other.”
At the heart of Camp True North are the living spaces, which will come to life in the form of cabins and single-family homes. The cabins are located near the lake, just west of the existing practice area at the golf course. Owners can also select one of the 15 lots and customize their cabin.
“We’re working with an exceptional builder to create these gorgeous cabins,” said Associate Broker at Coldwell Banker Bob Hartwick, who is handling real estate sales at Camp True North. “They’re luxurious, peaceful and accommodating, and I know guests are going to walk into them and fall in love.”
